Wrangelkiez invites you to discover “ GIRLS ” an intimate and empowering exhibition by the Beijing based photographer Luo Yang. Her serial of portraits unveils a touching sensual and unusual subversive face of China’s female youth.
Far away from the Asian cliché and closer to the coolness of rock n’roll, “GIRLS” is an introspective postulate at the crossroad of female emancipation.
Questioning the cultural shift of China’s emerging subculture, her models have a sense of rebellion and self awareness that we find sexy but they also struggle with the same ambivalent emotions, confusions and concerns just like any other woman.
Representing a new face of Chinese contemporary art, Luo Yang already got the support from the international art supernova Ai Wei Wei who simply acclaimed her as a “rising stars of Chinese photography” and invited her to participate to his “FUCK OFF2″ exhibition in Groninger Museum in 2013. So ” WHO RUN THE WORLD?” .
